Tunage Tuesday: Colette Kids CD

Music, we all love it! Well I love it and luckily Edith has followed in my footsteps and really enjoys music too. But what do you have your kids listen too? I personally have Edith listen to whatever I'm listening too, but sometimes it's nice to have something just for the little ones. My brother-in-law and his partner have a really amazing taste in music and while they were in Paris last they stopped into the oh so cool Colette and bought little Miss Edith a Colette Kids CD. Colette Paris has a great selection of the latest music and they produce a really cool monthly podcast (I highly recommend downloading it). So if you are looking for a great kids mix check out Colette Kids!

Tunage Tuesday: Sylvan Esso

Photo: D.L Anderson

I haven't done a Tunage Tuesday in awhile. I thought it was time to introduce you to another great artist I am listening to right now. I honestly can't get enough of Sylvan Esso!!!!! Amazing amazing amazing! Sylvan Esso is made up of Nick Sanborn from Megafaun and Amelia Randall Meath from Mountain Man. They didn't intend to become a band, but fate played it's role and they released their self-titled debut album back in May.

Check out Amelia's mesmerising vocals and Nathan's chilling beats. All I have to say is that it's a phenomenal record.

Inspirational Monday: Sharon Van Etten

I wasn't sure what was inspiring me today until I heard Sharon Van Etten's new song Taking Chances. It's spectacular!!!! And very appropriate for me right now as I am pushing myself to take chances and put myself out there again. Sharon's voice is so delightful and inspiring as I hope to sing as good as her one day. Have a listen to her new song, it's so lovely. Her new album, Are We There, is out 26 May.

Tunage Tuesday: Liars

The Liars have a new album which is pretty bang on. Perfect to get you out of your seat and wiggle your body around. Say mid-day jig? It's nice to hear a new album from them. I was a huge fan of them back at Uni. I use to be a dj at our college radio station.
KCOU 88.1 and boy was it so much fun! I had new music at my finger tips and the live shows!!!!! Oh the live shows!!!!!

For those of you that aren't familiar with the Liars, they're a three-piece band that formed back in 2000. Growing up in Cali they relocated to NYC where they created their unique dance-punk sound. Since starting the band back in 2000, they have lost and regained members, had a time in Berlin and now are about to release their 7th Album, Mess on Mute Records on 24 March. If you would like to have a listen to the whole album, check it out over at NPR's All Songs Considered First Listen.

Tunage Tuesday- Paloma Faith

You all know Paloma Faith, she's been around awhile, so I know this is nothing new to you, but I am just loving her new hit, Can't Rely on You! It's brilliant, it gets me dancing around the house. And it will keep me dancing around the house for awhile now. Happy tunage!!!!

Tunage Tuesday: Hundred Waters

I love it when I hear a song that makes my heart sing! Hundred Water's new song, Down From the Rafters, hit me right in the heart. This song is absolutely gorgeous and it almost puts you at a place of zen. With so much great music out there today, it's not easy to find a song that really grips you. I hope Down From the Rafters grips you today.

Hundred Waters is an indie band from Gainsville, Florida. They formed back in October 2011 while attending the University of Florida. The name Hundred Waters is an ode to European painter, Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Hundertwasser’s life and works greatly affected the way the group approaches music and art, believing that listeners should provide their own interpretations of each(Wikipedia). Now signed to OWSLA Records, they were named Sterogum's 40 Bands of 2012. Compared to the likes of Bjork and Braids, you'll hear their influence in the song today. Enjoy!

Tunage Tuesday: Beck

On a run yesterday I turned to my trusted friend NPR: All Songs Considered where Bob Bolen and Sami Yenigun interview Beck about his new album, Morning Phase, out today. I was impressed how humble and self-depricating Beck came across in this interview. Ok maybe self-depricating isn't something to be, but here we have this amazing song-writer admitting he is still trying to figure it all out. Well in my opinion he has had it all figured out since the first time my ears heard his amazing music. Morning Phase has a lot of similarities to Sea Change, soft and melodic sounds that paints a picture of catching an early morning sunrise. While listening to the album, it took me back to the time in my life when Sea Change came out, it was a good time. Enjoy!

Tunage Tuesday with Dan Croll

I'm not sure when I first heard Dan Croll's new song, From Nowhere, but it's been a popular song in the Ekardt household. It's the perfect song to crank up and dance around the house too. That's exactly what we did this last weekend. Edith was totally get down, the cutest sight ever!

British singer-songwriter, Dan Croll, released his first debut single, From Nowhere in November, 2012 with his first full-length album to be released in March, 2014. Boy am I looking forward to it! So get up from your seat and have a little jig this morning! I promise you this song will put you in the best mood!

Tunage Tuesday with I Break Horses

Let's talk about I Break Horses. I just discovered them the other day and I can't get enough. Thank you NPR for filling my ears with such bliss! Every year great new music arises to the surface, but 2014 is going to be a good year for music, well at least in my book. Since I can remember I have been a pretty big synth fan, just ask my friends, they'll smile and laugh and say yep, that's Kelly. So there is a reason why I love I Break Horses' song, Denial, so full of synth, it makes my heart skip a bit! From Sweden, Maria Lindén and Fredrik Balck bring you a new approach to shoegaze that will knock your socks off. Have a listen!

Tunage Tuesday with Kathleen Edwards

There is a lot of great music coming out of Canada these days. I know there has for sometime now, but lately it seems every new band I come across is from Canada. As I'm sitting here in Kassel, Germany for the Holidays, I've had some time to browse through my father-in-law's music collection. My father-in-law knows his classical music, but lately he has been surprising all of us with his selection of current artists. Almost 80 years old and he's introducing me to new music! Kathleen Edwards is one of the artist he introduced me too and I am really into her. Kathleen has been around awhile now with her first album, Failer debuting in 2003 and with her next two albums, Back to Me and Asking For Flowers making the Billboard 200.

Her lastest album, Voyageur released in 2012 is a mix of her original sound, Country mixed with a bit more folky/bar band, thanks to the influence of Bon Iver's Jason Vernon as he produced her album.

If you haven't already heard Kathleen Edwards, I encourage you to have a listen.

Tunage Tuesday: The Remembrance Mix

As it's Thanksgiving on Thursday, I've been quite nostalgic this week. Thinking back to what has brought me to this point in my life and how I have so much to be thankful for. Tunage Tuesday: Anna Calvi

Let's talk about Anna Calvi for a moment. The porcelain skinned beauty has released yet another great album, One Breathe. I first was introduced to Anna, I believe 4 years ago. My husband and I had tickets to see Braids at XOYO and Anna was on the bill as an opening act. I listened to Calvi before the show, but wasn't that into her. My poor husband was so sick and was kind enough to come for a bit, but left right before Anna came on. I told him if wanted to leave he should leave before Anna, cause I didn't think it was going to be that good. Well, I had to stick my foot in my mouth. I am the first to admit, I was completely wrong about Anna Calvi.

When she came on stage, she owned the room, it went completely silent and when she started singing, I literately had chills. It was like she just walked off the Twilight set, with her fair skin and bright red lips. She was absolutely stunning! And from that moment on, I was a huge Anna Calvi fan. How could you not be? She was amazing!

With a brand new album out now, she was taken us my storm again with her haunting vocals and emotional lyrics. Grab yourself a tea and treat yourself to Anna Calvi's new album, One Breathe. http://annacalvi.com
