Chit Chat Friday with NUNUNU

I have been very excited about this interview! I had the opportunity to have a lovely chat with Iris and Tali, the designers of NUNUNU at Bubble back in June and they are brilliant! NUNUNU is a comfortable alternative to the ordinary conventions of baby wear. They bring the cool to kids fashion with an array of great and simple prints: stars, letters, numbers, basically prints that kids will love! I absolutely fell head over heals in love with their new collection and I can't wait to get my hands on a few pieces for the little one! I had a nice little chit chat with Iris from NUNUNU, read on to find out more about this amazing design duo!

1.    TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF. WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND?

Background - Iris (that's me) was a fashion stylist for the past 15 years, working for fashion magazines and commercials. Tali is a graphic designer. She worked at a major advertising company as an art director, focusing on fashion campaigns. So both of us come from similar field.

2.    WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START NUNUNU?

Our inspiration for Nununu is a little bit a cliche. We had our kids but there was a lack of cool black and simple basics. They weren't easy to find if at all. Our frustration led us to invent our own line.

3.    WHERE DOES THE NAME NUNUNU COME FROM?

Nununu is actually a funny name, it's  when a child is misbehaving. You point your finger while saying nununu, it's like a verbal threat :) it basically means no! Or don't do that, the jewish Israeli way.

4.    WHAT INSPIRED YOUR LASTEST COLLECTION?

Our inspiration always comes from the same places, our urban life in Tel-Aviv, graphic and industrial design are always an influence. Whether it's a picture we saw, some furniture, shoes or bag we loved, they all inspired us. We love the minimalist way of life so I think it's our guide line while designing.

5.    WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE US TO KNOW ABOUT CUTE NUNUNU? HOW DOES NUNUNU STAND OUT FROM OTHER BRANDS?

I think that Nununu is a very distinct partnership  between Tali and I. We create our own language in Nununu, so I don't judge it from being  different from other brands, it's just our own world being created every season from the beginning.

6.    DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE CAFÉ, BOOKSHOP, MUSEUM, PARK, ETC THAT YOU CAN GO AND GAIN INSPIRAITON FROM?

One of our favourite inspiring places that we always visit while staying in
New York is ABC store. We call it the museum. We just love that store and it's the first place we visit in when we arrive there.

7.    DO YOU LISTEN TO MUSIC WHEN YOU ARE DESIGNING? IF SO, WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO NOW?

My favourite band at the moment is DAFT PUNK. I just love them. While designing we are actually in a very quiet meeting. Just the two of us, talking, drinking a lot of coffee, joking. It's always a fun meeting, that's the easy part :)

8.        WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE SOMEONE HAS GIVEN YOU?

Best advise - I was never good in getting advise :)) maybe if I had to choose one, it will be: JUST DO IT!

9. ANY EXCITING PLANS OR NEWS YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH US?

We are very excited about our new collaboration with Colligien shoes. We designed 3 pairs of shoes that are expected to be out in November. From sizes 18-19 up to 44-45. We cannot wait…

We plan to grow our sizes from next season, FW 14/15, so it will run up to size 14. We have been asked by so many costumers to do so, so it's exciting as well. We have our online shop on the way as well, so I guess in 3 months from now it will be ready.
